Einen Namen machte sich Golson nicht so sehr als Interpret, sondern als Komponist. Aus seiner Feder stammen zum Standardrepertoire avancierte Nummern wie „Killer Joe“, „Along Came Betty“ - und das melancholische Stück „I Remember Clifford“, das er 1956 nach dem tödlichen Autounfall von Trompeter Clifford Brown schrieb, ein Freund Golsons.

Golson made a name for himself not so much as a performer but as a composer. He penned numbers that became part of the standard repertoire, such as “Killer Joe,” “Along Came Betty,” and the melancholic piece “I Remember Clifford,” which he wrote in 1956 after the fatal car accident of trumpeter Clifford Brown, a friend of Golson's.

Golson s'est fait un nom non pas tant comme interprète que comme compositeur. Il est l'auteur de morceaux devenus des standards tels que « Killer Joe », « Along Came Betty » et le morceau mélancolique « I Remember Clifford », qu'il a écrit en 1956 après l'accident de voiture mortel du trompettiste Clifford Brown, un ami de Golson.
